How To Join The Crimson Fleet In Starfield

A lot of us were initially intrigued by the idea of joining the Crimson Fleet faction in Starfield, as it represents the pirates of the space world and gives some One Piece vibes. This guide will navigate through all the steps to join the Crimson Fleet pirates.

For those daring enough to “sail” under the Crimson Fleet’s flag, there are two ways to earn your pirate credentials. The first route involves criminal activity in UC-controlled territories: stealing, pickpocketing, carrying contraband, or performing other illegal deeds. The ideal place to do this is probably New Atlantis or Cydonia, as guards will find you quickly. Once apprehended, you will be informed that their orders will escort you to UC Vigilance. Once you reach UC Vigilance, the Deep Cover mission will start. This is how I got the mission in my second playthrough by getting caught pickpocketing in New Atlantis.

The alternative and decidedly more lawful approach starts with joining the UC Vanguard after talking to Commander Tuala and completing both Supra et Ultra, the enlistment mission, and Grunt Work, the probationary mission. If you haven’t been caught performing illegal activities in UC-controlled territory by that time, Tuala will assign you two missions instead of one. Delivering Devils, which is a continuation of the UC Vanguard questline and Deep Cover. Despite Tuala’s phrasing, you can complete both missions.

There is both good and bad news here. The good news is that you will get access to The Key, a great location to sell contraband and buy a bunch of nice weapons, while you will also be able to collect Kryx’s interview slates with SSNN and several pieces of evidence for the Burden of Proof mission.

Additionally, you will get access to Jazz (Jasmine Durant), the Ship Services Technician at The Key, the only vendor to sell you Crimson Fleet ships. Additionally, Jazz can install Shielded Cargo Holds and Scan Jammers on your ship.

Finally, after talking to Shinya Voss during the second Crimson Fleet mission, Rook Meets King, you will get access to the Crimson Fleet Mission Board. But here is where the trouble starts. The Crimson Fleet Mission Board may have smuggling missions that won’t give you much trouble, but its Piracy missions will earn you a bounty with the Freestar Collective or United Colonies.

Additionally, you will no longer be able to complete any missions of the normal Missions Board that require you to kill Crimson Fleet pirates without gaining a MASSIVE bounty with the fleet (I think around 15,000 Credits per shot/kill).

Finally, during the Eye of the Storm mission, you will need to stop acting as a double agent and pick a side. If you decide to show loyalty to the Crimson Fleet instead of SysDef, most of your Constellation companions will either Dislike or Hate your decision if you don’t have max affinity with them. You can turn them around through conversation, though.

Your allegiance to the Crimson Fleet is a double-edged sword, so make sure to choose wisely.

Crimson Fleet Questline

Crimson Fleet’s questline revolves around finding Kryx’s Legacy, a legendary treasure that Jasper Kryx, the fleet’s founder, allegedly hid somewhere.

  1. Deep Cover
  2. Rook Meets King
  3. Echoes of the Past
  4. Breaking the Bank
  5. The Best There Is
  6. Absolute Power
  7. Eye of the Storm
  8. Legacy’s End

Exclusive Crimson Fleet Rewards

The Crimson Fleet doesn’t just provide a different narrative pathway; it also comes with its own set of exclusive rewards. After completing the “Rook Meets King mission,” you earn the Pirate Swashbuckler Gear, enhancing your critical damage by 5%. Further down the line, you can acquire unique items like the Keelhauler Legendary pistol and the UC Prison Shuttle ship towards the end of the Echoes of the Past.

You will also get the Revenant rifle during the Eye of the Storm mission.

So, if traversing Starfield’s galaxies as a rogue pirate appeals to you, the Crimson Fleet offers an experience like no other. Choose your path wisely, however, as each decision echoes in the vacuum of space.
