How to Join the UC Vanguard in Starfield

If you’ve been venturing through the sprawling cosmos in Starfield, you’re likely curious about the factions that govern this intricate web of planets and stars. One of the most distinguished factions you’ll encounter is the UC Vanguard. With its focus on lawful conduct and protection, joining this esteemed organization can significantly shape your journey. But before you can call yourself a guardian of the United Colonies, there are specific tasks you must complete. This exhaustive guide will take you step by step through the entire process.

UC Vanguard Recruitment Guide: How to Join the UC Vanguard

The UC Vanguard faction is an organization dedicated to protecting the vulnerable residents of the United Colonies. Your journey to enlist in the UC Vanguard begins at the MAST building in New Atlantis’s MAST District, where you’ll encounter Commander John Tuala, the linchpin of your journey into the Vanguard.

Here’s a high-level summary of what you need to do to become an official UC Vanguard:

Meet John Tuala: First, you must meet John Tuala at the MAST building. For most players, this happens during “The Old Neighborhood,” Starfield’s second main mission. Tuala will attempt to recruit you to the UC Vanguard in your first meeting.

Complete Supra et Ultra: Upon accepting Tuala’s offer, you must fill out an application form and take the UC Vanguard’s piloting exam. While the exam revolves around the Piloting simulator, you must do a few more things to ace it. Once you pass the exams, you will take the UC Vanguard oath.

Complete Grunt Work: Let’s just say that while Supra et Ultra tests your piloting skills in the simulator, Grunt Work aims to test your abilities on the ground as the UC Vanguard’s probationary mission. Grunt Work is a mission that doesn’t turn out as you would expect at its beginning, but regardless, at the end, you will become a UC Vanguard member and receive the Vanguard’s armor.

  2. Initiate the Quest: Accept John Tuala’s offer to join the UC Vanguard.
  3. Registration and Exam: Head to the Vanguard Pilot Simulator area and complete at least three tiers. Complete all six tiers of the exam to receive more Credits (easier said than done though)!
  4. Return to Tuala: Once you return to Tuala, you will receive credits based on your exam performance. Exploring the Orientation Hall, using the debug tools, and hacking the computer will net you 24,000 Credits if you play the game on Normal Difficulty.
