Rook Meets King is the second mission of the Crimson Fleet faction in Starfield. After talking to Adler Kemp, at the end of Deep Cover, he will direct you to Naeva Mora, the Crimson Fleet’s number two, whose ship is in Europa’s orbit (one of Jupiter’s moons). Mora will have a task for you before you head to The Key (Crimson Fleet’s HQ) and become a member of the Crimson Fleet pirates.
- Crimson Fleet Mission 02
- Planets: Europa (Sol System), Enceladus (Sol System), Suvorov (Kryx System)
- Rewards: 7,500 Credits, 250 EXP, Pirate Swashbuckler Gear
Rendezvous with the Astraea at Europa
The Astraea is in orbit around one of Jupiter‘s moons, Europa, in the Sol system. Open your Missions log and set the course to the Astraea. Once you get in Europa’s orbit, you will see the Astraea.
Hail the Astraea
Once you hail the Astraea, the second-in-command of the Crimson Fleet Pirate, Naeva Mora, will have you complete a task before you can join the Crimson Fleet. Your task is to kill a former member of the Crimson Fleet, Austin Rake, who is aboard The Ragana, a medical ship in orbit of Enceladus, one of Saturn‘s moons, also in Sol (duh!).
Despite bringing in a ton of Credits, Rake (under a different identity at the time) wanted out of the Fleet and decided to run… But nobody runs away from the Crimson Fleet. Naeva Mora wants Rake dead, as he made her look like a fool in front of Delgado, the Crimson Fleet’s boss since she had vouched for Rake.
Find The Ragana Near Enceladus
Open your missions log, select the objective, and set the course to Enceladus. After you reach Enceladus’s orbit wait for The Ragana to appear.
Wait for The Ragana to Arrive
The Ragana will appear shortly after leading you to the next options.
Attack The Ragana
The obvious choice here is to attack The Ragana, destroy it, and complete the objective.
Or Hail The Ragana
If you hail The Ragana, you will talk with its captain, Dmitri Moldavski. Your next objectives will be the following. You can use the US SysDef or Crimson Fleeet dialogue options to board the ship and discuss matters further.
Convince The Ragana to Kill Austin Rake
Convincing The Ragana crew to kill Austin Rake will get you some nice loot from his body. Still, it will also upset Commander Ikande, as you have explicit orders to avoid killing anyone (but also “do what you have to do,” remember? It will also cause the disapproval of your follow in most likelihood.
You can use Persuasion to convince Dmitri Moldavski and the rest of The Ragana crew to kill Austin Rake. Doing so will allow you to acquire the Mark I Spacesuit and the Mark I Pack from Dmitri’s body, as Rake will kill him before he goes down.
You can see the two armor pieces below, as it may affect your decision on what to do, but they are really good, even on standard rarity.
Or Find a Way to Spare Austin Rake
Sparing Austin Rake will require you to lie to Naeva Mora, but it will not affect your progress with the Crimson Fleet questline. You will also require that The Ragana delivers him to SysDef or that he turns himself in. You will receive some medical supplies.
Return to Naeva in Europa’s Orbit
Once you return to The Astraea, you will find it attacked by two Ecliptic Stiletto spaceships. If you are a rookie in space combat, this won’t be an easy fight. I recommend focusing on one ship first and using the targeting system to take out its weapons once you take out its shield.
Once you destroy the first one, it should be easy to handle the other with Naeva’s help.
Hail the Astraea
Once you get rid of the Ecliptic mercenaries ships, hail the Astraea. You must lie to Naeva if you didn’t kill Austin Rake. After a brief conversation, Naeva will tell you to meet her at The Key, the Crimson Fleet’s headquarters.
Report to the Vigilance
Return to the UC Vigilance, dock with it, and board it.
Follow the SysDef Recruit
Once again, follow the recruit and take the elevator to the Operations Room to see Commander Ikande.
Speak to Commander Ikande
Depending on your decisions, you will get different reactions from Ikande. If you caused the death of anyone at The Ragana, he will be very upset, but you will still be able to continue the questline. He will also reveal that SysDef hired the Ecliptic mercenaries that attacked Naeva’s ship to ensure that you earn her trust.
You will also learn that Naeva started as a Neon street rat and worked her way up to second in command of the Crimson Fleet, so she is a force to be reckoned with, and getting on her good terms will be a tremendous asset in your operation.
Now it’s time to meet Naeva and Delgado at The Key.
Travel to The Key
The Key is a space station in orbit of planet Kryx in the Kryx system, so you will probably need quite a few jumps to get it.
Dock at The Key
Get close enough to The Key (within 500 meters) to dock with it. Once you dock, board the space station.
Speak to Naeva
Once you board The Key, find Naeva and talk to her. A short history lesson about The Key being an old UC star station seized by the Fleet will unfold as you follow her to meet Delgado. The Key is in orbit around Suvorov, an icy planet where the UC has built a supermax prison, The Lock.
Naeva will take you to The Key’s Cargo Bay, where you will find vendors selling merchandise and ship parts. She will explain that prisoners who escaped The Lock, led by Jasper Kryx, captured The Key and started pirating.
Finally, you will reach the Reckoner’s Core, connected with the Cargo Bay, and be introduced to Shinya Voss, who handles the Fleet’s money.
Speak to Shinya Voss
Shinya Voss has a bomb planted in his chest as a security measure. Handling the bulk of transactions and maintaining all accounts for the Fleet makes him a prime target for information. He could turn to the greatest threat against the fleet should he be captured or grow a conscience.
Speak to Delgado
Once you wrap up your conversation with Shinya and he sets you up to start making Credits for the Fleet and yourself, take the elevator to the operations center to meet Delgado. There, you will find another rookie, Mathis. You are the only two rookies that made it from the latest cut.
Don’t expect a welcoming party now, as Delgado will soon get down to business. He will also explain that you’re in it for the long haul when you sign up for the Crimson Fleet. No one quits, and no one retires. The only way out is death.
Delgado will brief you on your next job, taking you to The Lock on Surovov for another one of Delgado’s infamous initiation runs to the place where it all began for the Fleet with Jasper Kryx, who led the riots that gave birth to the Crimson Fleet. However, most rookies don’t make it out of these runs alive.
You will be in pursuit of Kryx’s Legacy (this sounds like more of a campfire story, but Kryx’s Data Slates hinted that he left a significant score before he left the Fleet; think of it like the One Piece, the whole mission has Gold Roger vibes). The Fleet acquired an access code to the insides of The Lock. If it works, you will be the first Crimson Fleet member to enter the Lock since Jasper Kryx’s days.
Delgado explains that if Kryx’s Legacy is not fictional (and he believes it isn’t), it can turn the Fleet into a significant player in the Settled Systems. However, anyone who’s tried to find it has wound up empty-handed, missing… or dead. Delgado bets his money that you will find a lead on the treasure on Suvorov and inside The Lock.
Once the conversation ends, you will be rewarded with 7,500 Credits (on Normal difficulty), 250 EXP, and the Pirate Swashbuckler Gear Apparel. You will also unlock the next mission, Echoes of the Past. Now that you have access to The Key you can sell contraband easily, search for Jasper Kryx’s SSNN interview parts, and Burden of Proof evidence inside the star station or via The Key side missions.
