Depending on how you view things, the Piloting Simulator objective during the UC Vanguard quest Supra et Ultra can be a challenge or a pain in the a**. Thankfully, there are some tips I can share with you to make your life easier.
Note: You will see different Credits you will receive at the end of Supra et Ultra, depending on the rest of your actions in the mission. If you visit every mural at the Orientation Hall, use the Debug Tools, hack the Simulation Controls computer, and complete Tier VI you will receive 24,800 Credits, as you can see in the image below.
Piloting Simulator Tiers
First off, there are 6 tiers of difficulty in the piloting simulator. You must complete Tier III to complete the objective for Supra et Ultra.
- Tier I: Level 32 Tier I Simulated Ship.
- Tier II: Level 32 Tier II Simulated Ship and Level 20 Tier II Simulated Ship.
- Tier III: Two Level 38 Tier III Simulated Ships.
- Tier IV: Level 44 Tier IV Simulated Ship.
- Tier VI: Four Level 46 Tier VI Simulated Ships.
- Tier V: Five Tier VI Simulated Ships of varying levels.
Reaching Tier VI is very easy on Normal difficulty. Below are tips on tackling the Piloting Simulator in harder game difficulties and how to beat Tiers V and VI. Of course, they will also help you in easier difficulties.
Tips to Beat the Piloting Simulators Tiers V and VI
- First, get Piloting to at least Rank 1 so you can use your ship’s thrusters to maneuver.
- Get Targeting Control Systems to at least Rank 2, ideally Rank 3.
- Remove all power from the Grav. DriveMax out your shields and weapons.
- Use the asteroids to hide so that you can replenish your shields.
- Take out the enemy ships’ shields first, then use targeting mode to take out the engines and weapons to buy you time to replenish your shields.
- Focus on the ships closer to you first, as they will be the first ones to attack you.
- Don’t lose health. As long as any of your ship’s systems is damaged, you will probably lose the fight.
- Reduce the game’s difficulty if you have to. Even on Very Easy, Tiers V and VI are very challenging.
Getting Creative: Simulation Controls Debug Tools
Use the computer on the right side as you enter the Piloting Simulat (the one you use to reset the current tier) and press the “Debug Tools” button. It can provide you a Shield Upgrade for 1 Tier and a Damage Upgrade for 1 Tier. It can also generate an ally spaceship that will assist you as long it’s destroyed (it won’t do much on higher tiers).
Making Things Cheesy: Authorized Users Only
Select the Authorized Users Only option on the computer and hack it (Advanced Security Level) to unlock the Debug Tools and make the upgrades permanent.
Making Things as Cheesy as Possible: The Abandoned Starstation Trick
Ensure you have aggroed the Simulated Spaceships. Go park your ship around the center of the space station. Hold E to leave your Pilot Seat and watch the ships get destroyed as they try to approach you and keep crashing on the space station. Your ship won’t take damage as long as you are not sitting at the Pilot Seat.
On Very Easy, it will only take a few minutes to take out 4 or 5 ships in Tier VI this way. On Very Hard, it may take a ton of time, but it still works. If you lose aggro, you may have to sit on the Pilot Seat again.
