In Starfield’s second main mission “The Old Neighborhood” you will be looking for another artifact, this time in the Sol System (aka Milky Way, our old neighborhood).

Talk to Sarahs Contact The Old Neighborhood

This Starfield guide will lead you through Starfield’s second main mission, The Old Neighborhood. You can start The Old Neighborhood by talking to Sarah after completing One Small Step.

  • Main Mission 02
  • PlanetsJemison, Mars, Venus, Neptune
  • Rewards: 8000 Credits, Constellation Suit, Constellation Helmet, 400 XP

Talk to Sarah

Your primary objective initially is to converse with Sarah Morgan. Sarah will inform you that she’s asked her network to stay vigilant for any unusual metallic items circulating in the area. She has a lead from the UC Vanguard and invites you to join her in an investigation to confirm its credibility.

Now, you can learn more about Constellation and UC Vanguard. Sarah will also explain how Constellation operates and that its members have not always been on the right side of the law.

Once you are ready to continue, Sarah will be locked as your companion. You can only dismiss her once you complete The Old Neighborhood.

Head southwest from the The Lodge to the MAST building. You will find Commander John Tuala at the UC Vanguard training center. Tuala will tell you to head to Cydonia on Mars in the Sol star system. You will find his contact, Moara, who has found a strange “ornament”, quite possibly another Artifact.

Note: Tuala will attempt to enlist you to the UC Vanguard. Accepting will unlock the Supra Et Ultra side mission. Completing this side mission will grant you access to the space combat simulator, while you will also acquire some nice gear in the process.

The distance to the Sol system from Alpha Centauri is 4.320 lightyears, so a single jump will be enough to reach it with the Frontier. Open your Missions menu (press “L” on PC) and select the next objective for The Old Neighborhood. Press “E” to set the course to the Sol star system. Then press and hold “X” to execute the gravity jump.

Once again, you will be scanned for Contraband before landing on Mars. Once you are cleared for landing, select Cydonia by pressing the “M1” button (LT on Xbox) and press and hold “X” to land.

Once you land, exit the Frontier, and the mission status will be updated. Follow the marker until you reach the gate to Cydonia‘s Central Hub.

Mission Board and Bounty Clearance Terminals

Once you open the door, head through the plastic dividers. Take the path to your right to find the Self-Service Bounty Clearance terminal and the Mission Board terminal. Using the Mission Board, you can pick up bounties, deliver cargo, and complete survey missions for extra Credits.

Meanwhile, you can use the Self-Service Bounty Clearance terminal to remove any outstanding bounties from your character.

Cydonia Trade Authority Shop

Heading back to the entrance, you can take the ramp down and open the door to your right after about 50-60 meters to find the Trade Authority shop location in Cydonia, run by Maanaki Almonte.

Find Jack and Talk About Moara

Head back to the terminals and down the stairs to reach the Broken Spear bar. Follow the objective marker to find Jack, the bar owner, and ask him about Moara’s whereabouts. Jack will tell you that Moara hasn’t been around for a while but has a 2,500 Credits tab with the bar. Jack will ask for those Credits before revealing any information.

You have three options:

  • Pay Jack 2,500 Credits
  • Try to use Persuasion to avoid paying.
  • Try to let your companion Sarah do the talking to avoid paying.

If you have unlocked the Persuasion skill, it should be easy to convince Jack and avoid paying.

Tip: If you haven’t unlocked the Persuasion skill maybe it’s better to let Sarah do the talking and accuse Jack of lying.

Regardless, by this time, you will probably have much more than 2,500 Credits, so even if you pay Jack’s fee, you will be just fine. Otherwise, return to that Mission Board to pick up some bounties and missions.

Once you are done, Jack will reveal that Moara mentioned Venus, so it’s time to head there.

While at the bar, head to the restroom and open the left door to find the Gabby’s Plea note.

Go to Venus

Open up your Missions menu, select the Venus objective, and set the course to Venus. Now, fast-travel to Venus. Sarah will start talking to you as you approach Venus, as she notices Va’Ruun Zealots ships.

The Zealots probably don’t know anything about Moara, but the UC Satellite near Venus holds some logs that will reveal more about him.

You have two options here:

  • Approach the UC Satellite without getting noticed and attacked.
  • Open fire and fight the Va’Ruun Zealots’ ship cluster.

We recommend picking the first option.

Examine the Satellite

Your goal here is to reach within 500 meters of the Satellite Beacon to examine it and download the logs.

(Optional) Use Minimal Power to Avoid Detection

If you pick the first option, turn down the power on all of your weapons systems, shield, and grav. drive. I used 2-3 bars for the Engine and I was able to get to the Satellite Beacon unnoticed and examine it, even without trying to hide behind the asteroids.

Once you are within 500 meters of the Satellite Beacon, press R to activate it. You will hear a message log from Moara, saying that he is heading to the Nova Galactic Staryard orbiting Earth‘s Moon.

Go to Nova Galactic Staryard

Open your Missions menu and select the objective. Set course to Sol‘s Luna and fast-travel to it. Once there, Sarah will start talking about the staryard’s history.

Inside it, you will find a First Aid kit, a Pharmaceutical Kit, the Urban Eagle gun, and an Ammo Case, so it’s worth opening up if you can. Next, open the door to Nova Galastic Staryard.
