Mantis Starship Razorleaf Stats Mantis Quest

The Mantis Legendary Ship (aka Razorleaf) and Spacesuit stand out when unlocking the Starfield universe’s most sought-after assets. This guide breaks down how to acquire these step-by-step and ends with tips to maximize your in-game experience.

The Mantis legendary ship and spacesuit can be yours relatively early in the campaign, providing you with an unparalleled advantage. Prioritize this mission to arm yourself with elite equipment early in your journey. But be warned: the enemies and puzzles you’ll encounter are not for the faint of heart.

How to Initiate the Quest: Look for a “Secret Outpost!” data slate usually carried by Spacer enemies. In my case, I received the item as a drop from a Spacer enemy inside Nova Galactic Staryard during “The Old Neighborhood.”

Listen to the data slate to discover a secret base located on Denebola I-b in the Denebola system.

Go to the Secret Outpost at Denbola I-b

Track the quest from your Missions menu to enable the objective marker on your map. Denebola is a level 30 star system, so you must work to get there. Let’s see:

The Denebola system is in the middle of nowhere if you haven’t done much exploring early in the game. In my case, I have reached Olympus and Cheyenne due to “The Empty Nestmain mission.

How to Get to Denebola

To get to Denebola we must explore a few other star systems first. Here are the ones you need to explore:

  1. Olympus
  2. Volii
  3. Porrima

Now you can get to Denebola I-b in Denebola. Once there, set the Secret Outpost as landing target and land.

Explore the Lair of Mantis

  • Enemies: Spacer Punk (Level 14), Spacer Scum (Level 30), Spacer (Level 8), Spacer Devourer (Level 38), Turret MK III (Level 20), Robot Model A (Level 20), Robot Model S (Level 28)

Once you reach the Mantis Lair, you will encounter Spacer Scum enemies (Level 30), Spacer Punks (Level 14), and Spacers (Level 8). Track the objective to reach the outpost’s entrance. You will have to fight a Spacer Scumand a Spacer Punk while another Spacer Punk and a Spacer are patrolling around.

The weapon that helped me clear the Mantis quest at level 8 was a rare Berserker Modified Beowulf.

(Optional) Learn More About the Lair of Mantis

You can listen to an Automated Message to learn more about the Lair of the Mantis. You will have to fight 3 Spacers before you reach the mechanism. Don’t forget to loot the Storage Box in the room. You will find more Leon Voclain Data Slates that will reveal the story of the Lair of Mantis by looting Spacer‘s enemy bodies.

You will encounter a Spacer Punk and a Spacer Scum (loot for a Leon Voclain Data Slate) next. You will find an Ammo Case and a Safe (Expert Level) in the room behind it.

Descend the ramp and take down another Spacer.

You will now reach a staircase with 2 Spacers and 4 Spacer Punks. You will need to be somewhat careful here.

The paths forward and left after this staircase lead to the same area with a Spacer Scum enemy and 3 Spacer Punks. The Spacer Scum enemy holds another Data Slate. Loot the Storage Box before you take the stairs down.

Descend the next staircase to reach an area with more 4 Spacer Punks and a Spacer Scum. You can loot a Helmet and Bounty Hunter Spacesuit before you enter it.

(Optional) Talk to Livvey

Loot Leon Voclain’s Final Recording from his corpse once you defeat all the enemies. Next, talk to Livvey. If you accept Livvey‘s help, he will explain that the next room holds a trap with a puzzle with letters on the floor.

You will also find a Safe (Expert), an Ammo Case, and Storage Box back at the start of the room.

You can also grab Lair Slate: Livvey’s Notes with letter combinations he tried and did not work.

Note: More Spacers (a Spacer Punk, a Spacer Scum, and a Spacer Vulture) may show up in flames as the upcoming room has traps inside it.

Solving the Mantis Floor Puzzle

Locate another data slate called “Leon Voclain – Sic Semper Tyrannis” from one of the Spacer enemies to reveal the answer to the puzzle. Sic Semper Tyrannis is a phase Leon’s mother used to repeat all the time.

Because the puzzle comprises eight rows of letters, to solve the Mantis floor puzzle, you need to walk across the letters to spell TYRANNIS. Here is the order of the letters to produce the word TYRANNIS:

  1. T – 3rd from the left
  2. Y – 1st from the left
  3. R – 5th from the left
  4. A – 6th from the left
  5. N – 4th from the left
  6. N – 7th from the left
  7. I – 2nd from the left
  8. S – 3rd from the left

Press the Button on the device and open the door to the next room. You will see a locked door (Expert) to your right. Take the stairs to the left to encounter a Turret MK III.

Follow the stairs down to encounter 2 Robot Model A enemies.

Final Automated Message - Mantis Quest

Activate the Automated Message to the left of the door in the room past the two robots to complete the optional objective Learn More About the Lair of Mantis.

In the next area you will encounter the most formidable enemy so far, a level 28 Robot Model S. Use grenades and the help of your companion to dispose of it (I kited it).

Once you enter the next room, the door behind you will close and become inaccessible. Livvey will try to trap you if you let him follow here, but will instead die. Open the door past the Control Room to complete Explore the Mantis Lair.

Claim the Mantis Starship

Sadly, we are not done yet. In the room with the Mantis Starship, take the path to the left to avoid the Robot Model S and A enemies and head to the Starship Lift Controls to raise the Starship’s platform to the ground level. This completes the Claim the Mantis Starship objective. Now it’s time to get the Mantis Spacesuit.

Once you are done, return to the surface using the elevator to board the Mantis Starship and make it your own.

To claim the Mantis Spacesuit, you must engage the Robot Model A and S enemies or try to sneak past them. Once you do, follow the path to the objective marker. You will find Mantis Spacesuit inside a display worn by a mannequin.

Note: There are a few different variants of the Mantis Armor Set. What you get varies per playthrough.

Head back to the control and take the elevator to the surface (floor 0). Use the computer to open the door and follow the objective marker. Head back to the entrance and then reach the starting area with the launchpad to find and board the starship. You will also find several Weapon Cases inside the ship and some Credits, while the Cargo Hold contains some resources.

The ship is now yours, and it definitely was worth the trouble!
