Dead Stop Walkthrough: The Eleos Retreat Side Quest

Dead Stop, also known as the Missing Worker side quest in Starfield, offers players the chance to acquire an epic weapon and a legendary suit. Set against the backdrop of Ixyll II, this quest unfolds in an area transforming into a rehabilitation facility for former inmates and convicts. However, this noble endeavor faces challenges, as both the construction crew and The Eleos Retreat workers encounter hazardous issues threatening their safety.

  • Side Mission at The Eleos Retreat
  • Planet(s): Ixyll II
  • Rewards: 75 EXP and Credits proportional to your character’s level.

How to Start the Dead Stop Quest

Upon arriving at the Eleos Retreat located on Ixyll II within the Ixyll system, you’ll be greeted by three individuals conversing beneath a crane near the facility.

As you discreetly tune into their exchange, you’ll learn of a concerning situation: a worker has gone missing. The construction foreman, Jonah Halftown, is visibly frustrated with the disappearance and is pressing the other two to intensify their search efforts. Despite their assurances of conducting a thorough search — even to the extent that their security officer was injured and taken to the infirmary — the group eventually dispersed, each committed to resolving the issue. This moment marks the beginning of an activity mission titled “Ask About the Missing Worker.”

Approach Sloan Temitope, identifiable by her white jacket, to engage in conversation and delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the missing worker.

She explains that due to several complications, including the disappearance of the worker, they are currently not accepting new residents. However, she offers you the opportunity to stay. Her vision is to transform the retreat into a hub for education and housing for those previously incarcerated. When you express your willingness to assist in locating the missing worker, she warns you of the planet’s aggressive wildlife. Following this, she directs you to consult the security officer for further details. You’ll need to cross the bridge and proceed through the door to find the security officer, Greg D’Angelo.

Talk to Greg D’Angelo

Once inside the facility, head to the infirmary to find Greg D’Angelo.

Ask Greg about any clues to help you pick up Kilman’s trail.

He recounts a harrowing experience, revealing that an unknown entity stabbed him during his search for the missing worker. He had been following a set of tracks outside the facility, leading him to a cave system, where the attack occurred. Following his guidance, you’ll exit the facility and navigate to the right. There, you’ll spot a wall featuring a ramp ascending to a door. Proceed through this door to continue your investigation.

Use your hand scanner to lead you to the objective marker for the next objective “Find Kilman.”

Find Kilman

As you venture forth from the door, your eyes are drawn to a large cliff looming in the distance. On the cliff’s left side, distinctive crystals jut out, marking the entrance to the cave system.

Approaching the entrance to the Mineral Caverns, you’re met with a loading screen, signaling your transition inside. Immediately upon entry, you’ll find a cleared path beckoning you deeper into the caverns. As you proceed along this path inside the caves, brace yourself for encounters with Pack Glowhands. These swift-moving creatures are quick to approach and capable of poisoning you, so I recommend sneaking and using a long-range weapon like a sniper rifle to take them out (they drop Hypercatalyst).

Take the left path on a set of split crystals you encounter and then go right at the second set of crystals, around 80 meters away from the objective.

After about 60 meters, you will find the missing worker, Mr. Kilman, at the bottom of a crystal ramp.

Levent Kilman will be visibly scared and mention not wanting to go back in the bag. Explain to Kilman that you are here to take him back to the Eleos Retreat. Levent Kilman will now start following you.

Return to the Retreat

Retrace your steps through the Crystal ramps to the exit (it’s best to use your Hand Scanner to find the path to the cave’s exit). The construction workers and Sloan will be gathered as you approach the objective marker (Jonah Halftown, the construction foreman). Kilman will explain that he was out walking, and someone threw a bag over his head. The kidnapper took him to a space with a steel floor that smelled like the insides of a first-aid kit.

The construction workers will start throwing accusations about who did it, and Monika will try to lighten the situation by saying that it would be a waste of a perfectly good bag.

Jonah Halftown will demand that the perpetrator be found, whether it is one of Sloan’s people, one of the construction workers, or even a ghost. So it’s time for a ghost hunt!

Speak to Sloan

Speak to Sloan to receive your reward. This will also lead to the second part of the quest: pulling the thread and discovering the kidnapper. Mentioning the clues about the smell of a first-aid kit or the metal floors will lead to a building that was evaluated in the past as a site for The Eleos Retreat. You will receive 75 EXP and credits scaling your character level for completing Dead Stop (I received 6,300 Credits at Level 70).

This will start the next mission in the questline, Ghost Hunt.
