Persuasion Skill Ranks and Effects
Reaching Rank 4 in Persuasion may not be mandatory but it is highly recommended if you want to focus on diplomatic solutions to overcome complex situations in Starfield.

How to Unlock the Persuasion Skill

- Skill Point Allocation: Navigate to the Social category and use a skill point to unlock Persuasion (my first skill point went there).
- Character Background: Choose a background that pre-unlocks Persuasion for you. Options include Diplomat, Industrialist, Sculptor, and Space Scoundrel.

Step 1: Initiating Persuasion Checks
Tip: Save your game before you try to persuade any character so that you can retry if you fail.
Every time you’re in a conversation that includes a Persuasion dialogue option, go for it. Even if you fail, the experience is invaluable.
Step 2: Understanding Difficulty Ratings and Filling the Persuasion Bar

When you select the Persuade option, youll be presented with choices marked by three colors, each representing a level of difficulty:
- Green: Easy but offers fewer points toward your target (Typically 1; 2 at best).
- Yellow: Medium difficulty with 3-4 points.
- Red: Hard but rewards 5 or 6 points if successful.
Your goal is to win enough persuasion checks to fill the bar at the bottom left corner of your screen.
Step 3 (Optional): Utilizing Consumables and Equipment
Before getting the hang of it, you may want to lean on external help. Aid items like Sparkling Wine, Hippolyta, and Paramour increase your persuasion chance by 8%, 20%, and 25% for 5, 5, and 10 minutes, respectively, while the Fitted Business Suit provides a constant 10% bump to your Persuasion Skill. Investing in Medicine may be a good idea to help you craft the aids below.
