How to Level Up Piloting Fast in Starfield

Are you wondering how to level up piloting fast in Starfield? The key to ranking up the Piloting Skill in Starfield is destroying enemy ships. Thankfully, even simulated battles against enemy ships count towards progressing Piloting’s Rank challenges, so the Piloting Simulator at the MAST building in New Atlantis is the perfect place to rank up your piloting skill fast. This will allow you to perform better maneuvers and use your ship’s thrusters, while you will also be able to fly B Class reactor-power and C Class reactor-powered ships once you unlock ranks 3 and 4, respectively.

How to Get Access to the Piloting Simulator

To access the Piloting Simulator, you must first talk to Commander Tuala at the MAST building’s lobby to start Supra et Ultra, the first UC Vanguard faction mission. Then, you must take the elevator down to the Vanguard Orientation Hall and use one of the terminals in the floor’s lobby to sign the Enlistment Agreement. Once you sign the agreement, the option to access the Vanguard Piloting Simulator will show up in the MAST building’s elevator panel.

After this step, you can optionally go through all the murals at the Orientation Hall or head straight to the Piloting Simulator room to continue with the Vanguard Exam. Once you talk to Exam Proctor Samuelson, you will get access to the Piloting Simulator.

From then on, the Vanguard Pilot Simulator will be open and ready for you to use, whether you have completed Supra et Ultra or not, as you can retake the exam as many times as you want.

How Many Ships Can You Destroy in the Piloting Simulator

Note: Once you complete a Rank Challenge, the ships you destroy won’t count towards the next rank’s challenge until you rank up your skill. Consequently, you can’t preemptively destroy all the required ships to complete future Rank Challenges. Just return to the simulator once you unlock and acquire the next rank.

The Piloting Simulator features six tiers/waves of ships you must defeat. Tier I and IV pit you against one opponent, Tiers II and III pit you against two opponents, while Tier V and VI pit you against four and five, respectively. You can defeat 15 ships each time you complete all tiers, so you will only need four or five full runs in the simulator to get Piloting to Rank 4. We also have a guide on how to beat Tiers V and VI in the Piloting Simulator, which may prove quite helpful.
