Bare Metal Walkthrough: Starfield Guide

Anastasios Antoniadis

Starfield’s Bare Metal side mission will have players take care of a thug who sprayed Styx, Frank Renick’s robot friend.

Bare Metal is a side mission in Starfield, which you can undertake in Neon on Volii Alpha in the Volii System. Frank Renic at Neon Tactical, the weapons and ammo shop of Neon, is friends with a robot, Styx.

However, a local thug, Warlord, a member of the Disciples gang, is harassing Styx and Frank and even disabled and defaced Frank’s robot friend with graffiti. Frank will ask you to deal with the Warlord before things get out of hand.

  • Side Mission in Neon (Core)
  • Planets: Volii Alpha
  • Rewards: 100 EXP & 3,300 Credits (Normal Difficulty)

How to Start the Bare Metal Mission

To start Bare Metal’s mission, head to Neon and take the elevator from the spaceport to Neon Core. Once you enter Neon Core, look to your left. You will find Neon Tactical left of the Trade Authority store.

Enter the store, talk to Frank about Styx, and offer to help him by tracking down the person who painted Styx with graffiti. The dialogue option is “I could track the person down who defaced Styx, if you like.”

Speak to Warlord

You will find Warlord somewhere near Euphorika. Exit Neon Tactical and take the path to the gate to Ebbside on your left. Once there, head straight to the balcony and turn to your right. Follow the objective marker until you find Euphorika.

You will find Warlord on the left side of the entrance as you enter the bar. Warlord will admit that he tried to rob Neon Tactical, and Styx put down a gang member and sent another straight to Reliant Medical.

You will have two options here:

  • Persuade You’re going to pay for the damages.
  • Attack I’m going to get those credits from you, dead or alive.

Persuade Warlord

Persuading Warlord is not hard. Focus on telling him that Frank is not right in his head, and he has already lost enough of his crew thanks to Frank and Styx. Telling him that he has the Strikers to worry about didn’t go well for me (Persuasion Rank 3).

or Kill Warlord

If you decide to attack Warlord, you must fight him and another Disciples member. Both are level 6 on Normal Difficulty (I was level 16). Here is the loot from Warlord:

Return to Renick

Regardless of your decision, once you recover with Warlord’s Credits, you can return to Renick by taking the door to the Bayu Plaza straight ahead of Euphorika’s exit. Tell Renick that Warlord isn’t going to bother him and Styx anymore, and you will be rewarded with 100 EXP & 3,300 Credits on normal game difficulty.

Should You Persuade Warlord or Kill Him?

Loot-wise, I don’t see a reason to kill Warlord, and killing someone over graffiti on a robot seems like a stretch. However, during your conversation, Warlord says that he hasn’t killed someone in a while.

Based on that, you are probably making the world a better place by getting rid of him. Eye for an eye?
