How to Get to Red Mile in Starfield

How to get to Red Mile, the gamblers’ and smugglers’ paradise and home to the Red Mile race bloodsport!

Red Mile Starfield

The Starfield universe is vast and filled with countless points of interest, but none quite like the Red Mile. I’m pretty sure even its name itself raises alarms. Tucked away on Porrima III in the Porrima system, this place is a notorious hub for gamblers, smugglers, and those with a penchant for the darker facets of space exploration. If you’ve made it through the first couple of main story quests, this location becomes accessible, allowing you to dive into an entirely different realm of gameplay possibilities.

Where is Red Mile?

Porrima III, the home planet of the Red Mile, is situated a tad to the west of Volii on the galactic star chart. If you’re a first-timer, brace yourself for a couple of grav jumps depending on your starting point and the type of grav drive your ship has, but 20 Lightyears from Alpha Centauri is really no big deal.

But what’s so special about this spot? This might be your go-to destination if you’re a wannabe smuggler (but not a pirate). The Red Mile is one of the scant places in the Settled Systems where you can acquire Shielded Cargo Holds and Scan Jammers from the Ship Services Technician, Lon Anderssen (the other one being The Key, Crimson Fleet’s HQ, in the Kryx System).

These ship modules are essential to move contraband into UC or Freestar-controlled regions.

Rune the Red Mile Side Mission

Then comes the main attractionthe Red Mile race. Once you enter the casino section of Red Mile and wander around a bit, an activity will pop up: “Tell Mei You Want to Run the Red Mile.” You will find Mei Devine inside the main casino lobby, to the back right.

The Red Mile race is a blood sport, a betting event that pits you against environmental hazards and predators in a crater laden with toxic gas vents. Your mission is simple: reach the beacon at the end.

Your companions might not be keen on this hazardous race. For instance, Sarah Morgan complained about it, but Andrea said nothing. You probably won’t get any dislikes from them here. It is best to ignore everything else and run for the beacon for the runs themselves. On Very Hard, the Red Mile Maulers I encountered had way too much HP, making me realize that the goal isn’t to exterminate them but to ignore them.

Completing a run can net you a hefty sum of credits and some loot. If you complete the Red Mile race 30 times, you’ll top the Red Mile’s leaderboards and earn a unique variant of the AA-99 assault rifle called “Desperation.” This special weapon becomes increasingly lethal as your health dwindles. However, achieving this status might require some persistence. Each run takes a few minutes, given that you must also return to the casino and start over. If you plan on running the Red Mile 30 times, I recommend using Aid items like AMPs that increase your movement speed and reduce your O2 consumption. Then everything can go superfast, especially if you have invested in your Physical skills tree.
