During your exploration of Starfield‘s New Atlantis, the misc mission “Alternating Currents” picks up where its prelude “Tapping the Grid” leaves off and it’s time to confront the culprit behind the brownouts in The Well. Your first stop will be the Trade Authority in The Well.

Talk to Louisa Reyes and Follow Her to the Trade Authority
As the narrative advances, you’ll accompany Louisa to the Trade Authoritythe suspected nerve center of mysterious electrical anomalies in The Well. Louisa is particularly cautious around Zoe Kaminski, the local store’s administrator, describing her as “intimidating.” After a confrontation, Zoe retires to another room, presumably to double-check facts or seek counsel.
When she returns, she dismisses the allegations and offers to pay for further investigation. Both women have agendas (however, one of them is probably a shady one), and both want you squarely in their corner.
It’s now time to follow the trail of junction boxes and identify the real brownouts’ culprit.
Locate and Power Down the Junction Box
Your initial goal is to locate the first junction box situated toward the back of Jakes diner. Following a staircase, you arrive at the “Upper Level.” Continue on this route until you hear Louisa’s voice. Should you wish to use it, there’s also a Weapon Workbench on the left side of the path. Finally, hop over a walkway gap to access the junction box.
Louisa and Zoe give you conflicting directions: 45A, according to Louisa, and 47B, according to Zoe. Your choice hinges on whom you trust more. Importantly, avoid falling through the walkway gapyou’ll likely sustain damage.
Reaching Junction Boxes 45A and 47B
For junction box 45A, navigate the staircase adjacent to Kays House. When you encounter what looks like cafeteria seating, make a right and curl around the corner. You’ll find your box. To get to 47B, head to the rear of Jake‘s diner and find an alleyway. A staircase there takes you to the Upper Level. Follow it up until Zoes voice is audible. I used my boost pack to get up there. Regardless of your choice, Louisa and Zoe agree that the problem originates from above The Well on the surface and New Atlantis’ Residential District.
Locate and Power Down the Junction Box (Athena Tower)
Take any elevator to the surface level (I took the MAST Tram Station one). Upon arrival, Zoe contacts you, suggesting you share any findings with the Trade Authority first for a financial reward. Your destination now shifts to Athena Tower in the Residential District. Outside its front door, you find a panel leading you to the problem’s root. Louisa and Zoe concur that Athena Tower is where you must focus next.
Locate the Power Drain’s Source & Access the Apartment
Inside Athena Tower’s lobby, take the elevator, to reach your objective marker. You’ll need to pick a Novice lock to enter the apartment, so make sure you have Digipicks on you.
Find Evidence
Once in, you discover incriminating evidence on a computer by accessing the Recent Messages on the desktop an email from Newman to Dogson that mentions hacking GalBank’s systems using the excess power obtained by rewiring the junction boxes. This is the evidence you need.
Now select the second option, Download Files, to acquire the evidence.
The Moral Quandary: Deliver Evidence to Louisa Reyes or Zoe Kamisnki
TS_Poll id=”1″
Back at The Well, Louisa and Zoe are waiting for you in the foyer of the Trade Authority. Whoever you choose to deliver the evidence to the quest, the rewards will be the same, 82 EXP and 8,000 Credits on Very Hard. As I explain below this is a quest that’s more about your personal moral compass rather than any long-lasting effects in Starfield.
Should you choose Zoe, expect a brief expression of disappointment from Louisa. Zoe, in turn, will be pleased and share only the minimum of information needed for Louisa’s investigation. On the other hand, if you side with Louisa, she will commend your choice, pledge to inform the authorities and keep a watchful eye on future activities at the Trade Authority.
While your choice doesn’t have a lasting impact on the game, it serves as an intriguing moral checkpoint, spotlighting your ethical choices within the Starfield universe.
