“The Great Laredo Caper” is a side mission in Starfield’s Akila City that entrusts you with aiding the most junior yet enthusiastic member of the Freestar Rangers, Annie Wilcox. This quest starts with by passing by Emily, Annie’s friend, who will tell you to speak to Annie. Annie, the spirited daughter of Senior Ranger Emma Wilcox, is keen to demonstrate her abilities and live up to her self-proclaimed title of “Ranger Surveillance Assistant.”
Recently, during her patrol duties, she observed a mysterious figure lurking near Laredo Arms, thus the name of the mission “The Great Laredo Caper.” Despite her observations being dismissed by the other Rangers, Annie remains convinced of the individual’s suspicious nature, and now, it’s your task to unravel this enigma.

Talk to the Girl
To start “The Great Laredo Caper” in Starfield, you first need to wrap up the “Job Gone Wrong” side mission, which becomes available during your initial visit to Akila City. Once that mission is complete, your next step is to locate the young Annie Wilcox. From the spaceport entrance of Akila City, take a right and proceed under the underpass, leading you towards the vicinity of Laredo Arms.
Once you’ve passed through the underpass, make a left and descend the steps located opposite Laredo Arms. Here, you’ll encounter Annie and her companion Emily, stationed near a chain link fence and two stainless steel silos.
Engage in conversation with Annie. She’s eager to share details about her ongoing investigation into a suspicious figure who has been frequently spotted around Laredo Arms during the night. Annie suspects this person is involved in illicit arms dealings, and she’s determined to catch them in the act.
However, there’s a catch: the suspect in question only appears after midnight, adding a layer of complexity to your mission.
How to Wait Until Midnight
To efficiently pass time in Starfield, simply locate a chair, stool, couch, or bed and use it. Once you’re seated or lying down, a prompt to ‘Wait’ will appear on your screen. Engaging this feature allows you to select the duration of time you wish to skip forward. For “The Great Laredo Caper” mission, the game indicates that the suspect appears at midnight, but fortunately, there’s flexibility in the timing. You can fast-forward to a moment close to midnight, and the suspect will still make their appearance.
I recommend using a chair at Laredo Arms or the Shooting Range to wait until (close to) midnight, as it will be easier to apprehend the thief swiftly.
Apprehend the Laredo Arms Thief at Midnight
To locate the area where Annie observed the suspect, start by facing the front entrance of Laredo Arms. Then, take a left and head towards the sign indicating the Shooting Range. Upon reaching the sign, make a right turn to find an alley that leads directly to the Shooting Range.
Confront the Thief Suspect
In this scenario, you’ll notice the thief making a stealthy approach through the Shooting Range, moving in a crouch-walk manner towards the entrance of Laredo Arms. When you confront this suspected arms thief, he will swiftly confess to his wrongdoing.
Shortly after this confrontation, a security guard from Akila City will arrive on the scene. Having recognized you as the hero from the GalBank hostage rescue in the “Job Gone Wrong” mission, the guard will proceed to take the thief into custody.
Report Back to Annie Wilcox
With the Laredo Arms thief now apprehended, your next step is to share the successful outcome with Annie. To find her, retrace your steps towards the spaceport entrance of Akila City. Once there, take a right turn leading to The Rock. Annie is located at the The Rock’s bar on the second floor, accompanied by her mother, Ranger Emma Wilcox.
Upon reaching them, update both Annie and Ranger Wilcox about how Annie’s keen observations led to the capture of the thief. Ranger Wilcox, recognizing your efforts and success in the mission, will then present you with your well-earned reward.
