Most vendors in Starfield have a quite low amount of Credits, around 5,000. Additionally, there is an element of randomness to the variety of items and the stock each vendor provides. Thankfully, there is a trick as old as the Elder Scrolls franchise to reset Vendor stock and credit. And the great thing about it is that all you need is a bench, couch, or a chair. So, if you want to sell a ton of items fast (including Contraband and Stolen items if you are close to a Trade Authority vendor or at The Key), this guide is exactly what you need.
How to Reset Vendors’ Balance and Stock
To reset vendors’ stock and balance in Starfield, the trick is to wait or sleep for 24 hours. Thankfully, most vendors have a couch, bench, or furniture that allows you to sit and wait.
In the above example, I visited the UC Distribution Center vendor in New Atlantis’ Commercial District, Wen Tseng. Her Credit balance is 5,000 Credits. After selling some items to her, her balance dropped to 4,258 Credits. Then I found a couch inside the UC Distribution Center, I sat and waited for 24 hours.
Once the 24 hours had passed, I talked to Wen Tseng again. Here are her Credits now:
You can see the vendor’s Credits are back to 5,000. You don’t have to worry about the local/universal time conversion here. Just wait 24 hours local time for the trick to work.
How to Use the Vendor Stock and Balance Trick
Of course, this is a great way to reset the vendor’s Credits to keep selling items to them. However, the other use is also very beneficial. If you are looking for a specific resource bulk, you can keep resetting the vendor to buy large amounts of it, as their stock will reset. Additionally, due to the randomness, you may not find a specific resource the vendor usually has. Resetting the vendor may make the resource available again. Finally, resetting a vendor’s Credit and Stock may allow you to get a better quality (Refined/Calibrated/Advanced) of the Spacesuit, Helmet, or Boost Pack you are looking for.
How to Make the Most of the Vendor Stock and Balance Trick
I think the best option to maximize this trick is to visit The Key, as long as you are a member of the Crimson Fleet pirates. What makes the difference at The Key is that since it’s the Headquarters of an outlaw faction, every vendor (to my knowledge) will be both Contraband and Stolen goods. Waiting for 24 hours at The Key will reset all its vendors’ stocks and credits, so you can sell your Contraband and Stolen items pretty fast.
Another great option is Neon, as the Trade Authority store, which buys Contraband and Stolen items, is right in front of the Spawn Point at the Spaceport Terminal Elevator, while the area around it is full of stores. Resetting the Trade Authority vendor will reset every other vendor, too, so you can keep selling illegal items to the Trade Authority and then sell your legal items to other vendors pretty fast.
