False Positives Walkthrough: Akila City Side Mission

Starfield’s False Positives has players uncover the reason behind problematic data from Keoni’s sensors.

False Positives Walkthrough Akila City Side Mission

False Positives is a side mission in Starfield and the follow-up to Defensive Measures, picking up where the latter mission left off in Akila City. The story progresses as you find yourself amid a dispute between Davis Wilson and Keoni Alpin concerning the effectiveness of the city’s security systems. During Defensive Measures, the player character assisted Keoni in deploying sensors across The Stretch to gather evidence to support the effectiveness of her technological solutions for enhancing Akila City’s defenses. Now, it’s time to evaluate the outcome of these efforts.

In this guide to Starfield, you’ll receive detailed, step-by-step guidance to successfully navigate and complete the Akila City side quest, False Positives.

  • Side mission in Akila City
  • Planet: Akila
  • Rewards: 75 EXP and Credits proportional to your character level

Waiting for 21 local hours in Akila City equals 24 hours and 30 minutes (UT). After finding a chair/couch/bed/stool, wait 21 hours. Once ready, head to Keoni.

Talk to Keoni Aplin about Ashta Data

After a day has passed in the game following your completion of the Defensive Measures mission, go to the Stoneroot Inn, conveniently opposite Sinclair’s Books. You’ll find Keoni Alpin waiting for you outside the inn. To reach her, begin at the Akila City spaceport gate and head eastward toward The Rock. Veer slightly to the left, bypassing Rowland Arms and Chunks.

Continue along this leftward path until you encounter a staircase descending towards Sinclair’s Books. Take a right turn when you reach Sinclair’s, and you will spot Keoni near the entrance of the Stoneroot Inn. I don’t think a map is necessary here, as you can follow the objective marker toward Keoni, but in any case, here is the path you must follow from Akila City’s Chunks store to Keoni.

Keoni got the data from the seismic data from the sensors you placed, but she sounds worried and needs your services once again. She reveals that Davis Wilson is pretty angry about the sensors, and everyone in city security has cut Keoni off. However, it all comes down to the data from the sensors being completely off in terms of timing and signal strength.

Keoni explains that she is pretty confident about the tech she placed and believes that someone is purposely messing with the system, generating… False Positives! Your task is to ask around and find out what’s going on with the sensors and who is meddling. And the best person to ask is, of course, Davis Wilson.

To locate Davis Wilson from the entrance of the Stoneroot Inn, head east and pass beneath the overpass. Continue in the eastern direction until you arrive at a silo adjacent to the eastern wall, then take a right turn. While moving southward, keep an eye to your left and ascend the staircase opposite the modern forklift. Davis Wilson can be found at the top of these steps.

Engage in a conversation with Davis, and he will share his concerns about Ashta’s unpredictable behavior. Although he seems frustrated with Keoni’s recent activities, his primary concern is Ashta’s unusual actions, relegating his irritation with Keoni to a secondary issue. As it turns out, the false positives on the sensors are not so false…

Seeing an opportunity in your involvement, Davis will inquire whether you want to accompany him on a patrol mission outside the city’s boundaries. Accept the invitation, and you must rendezvous with him at the east gate.

Go to the East Gate

The east gate is 41 meters south of your current position, so it should be easy to find. Just descend the staircase you used to get on top of the wall and keep heading forward until you find the gate and Davis on your left side.

Davis now asks whether you are ready to head out. Once you are ready, choose one of the affirmative dialogue options, and it’s time to go on patrol.

Assist Davis on Patrol

Once on patrol, you will start following the Ashta’s tracks, which, according to Davis, don’t make any sense. The Ashta’s routes are very clever but predictable, and the paths they have followed this time do not add up. Keep following Davis, and you will find a Robot Model. A security robot was sent out to mimic Ashta’s movements. Is this a trap?

Defeat the Ashta

Ashta will start surfacing from the ground, and it’s time to fight for your life (I mean, not really, as the enemies are a level 1 Ashta and a level 5 Ashta, so they shouldn’t be a problem for any player. Meanwhile, I’m level 69).

After commending you for helping in the Ashta’s demise, Davis Wilson starts wondering who plotted this and why. Maybe someone from Akila Security was worried about their job security and decided to sabotage the sensors.

Search the Security Logs

Path to Akila City Barracks

It’s not time to head back to the Barracks, where you first met Davis Wilson and Keoni Alpin during their heated debate. I would recommend fast traveling to Akila City’s spaceport and then re-entering the city. The path to the Barracks is between Sepherd’s and Rowland Arms, easily identifiable from the Infodesk next to it.

Akila City Security Database

Accessing the Akila City Security Database reveals that Bailey Kirklin was the last person to access the Robots, and the data were corrupted after that point. To do so:

  • Access the Akila City Security Database terminal.
  • Select the Access Logs folder.
  • Select the Robot Updates log file.

Talk to Bailey Kirklin

To engage with Bailey Kirklin, simply step out of the barracks; she’ll be in the vicinity. Upon confronting her with the knowledge that she’s responsible for the unauthorized robot deployment that agitated the Ashta, you’ll be presented with three dialogue choices:

  1. Negotiate for a Bribe: Suggesting that a heavy load of credits might prevent you from reaching Davis could lead Bailey to offer you a modest bribe. However, all four Constellation companions will dislike this decision.
  2. Hint at Consequences: Commenting that Bailey might need to start job hunting will have no additional repercussions or benefits.
  3. Plead for Leniency: Proposing to Davis that he should be lenient towards Bailey may be viewed favorably by your Companion (Andreja won’t react, but she is cold as ice).

After making your choice, the next step is to return to Davis Wilson and brief him on the outcomes of your investigation.

Return to Davis Wilson by taking the stairs on The Rock’s right side and moving forward until you meet the wall. Turn left and head forward until you reach Akila City’s east gate and Davis Wilson.

He will inform you that he couldn’t extract any information from the damaged security bot. Then, he will inquire about who was responsible for deploying the bot, offering you these dialogue choices:

  1. [Lie] The computer logs were corrupted. No way to tell who did it.
  2. Bailey Kirklin is your culprit.
  3. Kirklin said she did it to make your life easier. Said Keoni was affecting your job performance.

Select the response you find most fitting. Following your choice, Davis will present you with a reward of 75 EXP and Credits proportional to your character level and then leave to address the situation. This completes False Positives and unlocks the follow-up, Leader of the Pack.
