How to Change Your “Home Ship” in Starfield

Find out how to change your “Home Ship” in Starfield.

Ecliptic Cutlass

In Starfield, you must always have a designated “Home Ship” for your space travels. You won’t be able to sell your “Home Ship,” so this is Starfield’s way of telling players that they must have at least one ship in their fleet. Assuming you want to change your “Home Ship,” to either sell the current one or just move your crew and cargo to the new one (for instance, because it’s just a better ship), here is how to do it.

Find a Ship Technician to Change Your Home Ship

To change your home ship, you must visit a Ship Services Technician. These can be found in every major city of the game and several other locations. Here is the exhaustive list:

  • New Atlantis, Jemison (Alpha Centauri System)
  • Gagarin on Gagarin (Alpha Centauri System)
  • Cydonia on Mars (Sol System)
  • Red Devils’ HQ on Mars (Sol System)
    • Note: Becomes available after The Devils You Know
  • Neon on Volii Alpha (Volii System)
  • New Homestead on Titan (Sol System)
  • Akila City on Akila (Cheyenne System)
  • Hopetown on Polvo (Valo System)
  • Paradiso on Porrima II (Porrima System)
  • Red Mile on Porrima III (Porrima System)
  • Eleos Retreat on Ixyl II (Ixyl System)
  • The Key in Suvorov’s Orbit (Kryx System)
  • The Den in Chthonia’s Orbit (Wolf System)

Once you talk to a Ship Services Technician, follow the steps below to change your home ship:

  1. Select the “I’d like to view and modify my ships” dialogue option.
  2. Switch between your ships until you find the one you want to make your “Home Ship.”Make Home Ship Option
  3. Once you do, press the “Make Home Ship” option (or “H” on PC) to make it your “Home Ship.”
  4. Now, all your Cargo and Crew will move to the new ship, but note that if the ship’s crew capacity or cargo capacity is smaller than the first one, you may have to do some reallocation of your members and items.

Once again, you won’t be able to sell your “Home Ship.” Additionally, you don’t have to register a stolen ship to make it your “Home Ship.”
