Before selling a stolen (commandeered) ship in Starfield, you must register it. Unfortunately, this is a quite disappointing aspect of stealing and selling ships, as the registration fee is 90% of the ship’s original value, so you can make minor profits (which can get a bit better with the Commerce skill). Regardless, here is how to register a stolen ship in Starfield so that you can sell it afterward.
How to Register a Commandeered Ship in Starfield
To register a Ship, find a Ship Services Technician. These are available in every major city in the Settled Systems. In this example, I visited the Ship Services Technician in New Atlantis’ spaceport to register a stolen Spacer Vulture (a pretty solid ship early in the game):
- Talk to the Ship Services Technician.
- Select the “I’d like to view and modify my ships” dialogue option.
- Switch between your ships until you find the stolen ship you want to register.
- The “Register” option will appear at the bottom right corner of your screen.
- Press the “Register” option.
- Confirm your selection in the pop-up to pay the fee. Now you can sell the ship.
As I already mentioned, the sad part about this is that if you want to make a living from stealing and selling in Starfield (I know I do), the registration fee makes the whole process not really worth it.
