All Starfield Weapon Mods and Materials Required to Craft Them

You might think you’re already at your peak if you’re armed with Starfield‘s best weapons. Think againStarfield’s weapon mods are designed to elevate your gameplay or unlock more dimensions to it, tailoring your firearms to your preferred combat style.

What are Starfield Weapon Mods?

A weapon mod is a customizable component that can be added to almost any weapon in the game. Whether you want to add a suppressor for silent sneak attacks or prefer a drum magazine for that extra ammo capacity, Starfield provides a plethora of choices. To attach these mods to your weapons, you’ll need to find a Weapon Workbench, where you can also detach them if need be.

Furthermore, each weapon in Starfield comes with a “mods” stat, indicating the maximum number of mods that weapon can support. For instance, the Keelhauler weapon can accommodate up to six mods, from optic ones and receivers to muzzles and barrels.

However, crafting Weapon Mods isn’t just a matter of clicking and adding; you’ll need resources. Sometimes, you can find these resources in the wild by exploring planets, mining with your Cutter, etc. Alternatively, you can buy them from vendor NPCs or build outposts to extract resources with Extractor outpost modules. Sadly, you cannot dismantle weapons to acquire their installed mods.

How to Unlock Better Weapon Mods

To start, you must unlock the desired mod research project at a Research Lab. This process typically requires spending Starfield credits and resources. Weapon Mod research projects are connected to the Weapon Engineering skill in the Science Skill Tree. As you acquire higher Weapon Engineering Ranks, you can unlock more advanced research projects for weapon mods.

So, while exploring the great unknown, have a mining operation to gather essential materials. You can build a mod at a weapons workstation after you’ve unlocked a mod.

Starfield Weapon Mod Locations

Crafting weapon mods and installing them at a Weapons Workbench is your only option to get Weapon Mods. This is only possible once you’ve completed the required research project. Weapon Mods cannot be looted in the wild or found in containers, crates, cases, or fallen enemies’ bodies.

Can You Loot Weapon Mods in the Wild?

No, you can’t. You won’t find it in enemies’ bodies, crates, weapon cases, or any other storage type. You won’t find them as standard loot on desks, cabinets, table, etc., either. Your only option is to craft them.
