Here is how to toggle walk/run for the role-players and autowalk/autorun for the lazy ones in Starfield.

How to Toggle WalkRun and AutowalkAutorun in Starfield

There are moments in Starfield that can very easily be ruined by your character jogging, as it feels totally inappropriate for the current circumstance. Since players, especially those who love RPing in RPGs, have this question, here is the answer on how to toggle walk (and autorun in Starfield). For instance, when you walk to address the Cabinet of the United Colonies in “A Legacy Forged,” it would be wise to avoid running.

The Default “Toggle Always-Run” Key Switches Between Walk/Run

Here’s the big reveal (lol): In Starfield, the default key for toggling between walk and run is the Caps Lock key. To access the game’s key bindings and find the “Toggle Auto-Run” key, follow the steps below:

  1. Pause the Game: Hit the pause button to open Starfield’s in-game menu. Navigate to the “Settings” section.Starfield - In-Game Menu
  2. Locate Key Bindings: Within the “Settings” menu, scroll down until you find the “Key Bindings“option. Click on it to access your key assignment configuration for every action in the game.Starfield - Settings Menu
  3. Find the Right Key: Look for the key assignment labeled “Toggle Always-Run.” The default key for this action is usually Caps Lock, but you can change it to another key if you prefer.
  4. Back to Gameplay: Return to your game once you’ve confirmed the key assignment.
  5. Toggle Walk: Press the assigned key (Caps Lock by default) to switch between running and walking modes.

The previous section covered how to switch between walking and running in Starfield. However, what if you want to make your character start moving forward, regardless of whether they are walking or running? As you can see, there is also an “Auto-Move” key binding, by default assigned to Num Lock. You can of course change this binding too, but if you press the bound key, your character will start moving forward, either walking or running.
