Sony is reportedly encouraging game developers to harness the capabilities of a rumored PlayStation 5 Pro model by introducing an exclusive graphics mode that enhances visual fidelity. This mode, as reported by The Verge, would utilize Sony’s new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology, enabling games to upscale to 4K resolution while maintaining 60fps and incorporating ray-tracing.

Games compatible with this high-spec mode may receive a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label, although this designation might also apply to games that only support 30fps, as long as they feature improvements in resolution or ray-tracing on the PS5 Pro. The criteria for earning this label require developers to either increase the game’s maximum resolution or incorporate ray-tracing without necessarily boosting the frame rate.

Furthermore, Sony’s latest SDK must be used for games to access these enhancements, though an “ultra boost” mode might offer some performance improvements for unpatched games. This mode, however, is limited, particularly for games with fixed resolutions and graphics settings.

Despite these intriguing developments, Sony has not officially confirmed the existence of the PS5 Pro or responded to these reports. Industry insiders speculate that the new console model could launch later this year, potentially redefining gaming experiences on the PlayStation platform.
