How to Convince Ships to Surrender & Rank Up Deception

In Starfield, compelling ships to surrender involves a straightforward process. By hailing a ship and selecting the piracy dialogue option, players can engage in an interaction aimed at coercion. Successfully completing this interaction adds to your Deception skill and moves you a step closer to the next proficiency rank.

Identifying prime locations for finding ships to surrender is key. The most fruitful areas are typically the orbits around major planetary cities. Spaces just outside planets like Jemison, Akila, and others are hotspots for encountering a variety of ships suitable for piracy.

Particularly, ships labeled “SSNN Sloop” tend to be abundant around Akila in the Cheyenne Star System and are prime targets for your piracy efforts. Also, Freestar ships, often found near major urban centers, are viable candidates for surrender. In general, head around planets like Jemison, Akila, Volii Alpha, and Mars, where the game’s major cities are located, to find a plethora of ships to convince you to surrender and level up your Deception skill.

Advancing to rank 4 in the Deception skill necessitates making 35 ships capitulate to your piracy commands. Each rank-up enhances your success rate in piracy against more formidable ships and improves your odds against contraband scans during smuggling operations. Here’s a breakdown of the requirements and rewards:

  • Rank 1: 10% stronger ships will surrender on demand. Contraband scans by enemies are 10% less effective. Unlocks with 4 points in the Social skill tree.
  • Rank 2: 20% stronger ships will capitulate automatically. Contraband scans are reduced in effectiveness by 20%. Requirement: Make 5 ships surrender.
  • Rank 3: 30% more powerful ships will yield to piracy demands. A 30% decrease in enemy scan efficacy. Requirement: Convince 10 ships to surrender.
  • Rank 4: 50% stronger ships will surrender without resistance. Enemy contraband scans are 50% less effective. Requirement: Ensure 20 ships surrender.

It’s important to note that while orbiting major cities is a hotspot for piracy, it’s not the only option. Ships suitable for surrender can be found in various locations across space, offering ample opportunities to engage in the piracy dialogue and advance your Deception skill.
